Cat On A Hot Tin Roof... An all-star cast with Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman (BOTH at the height of their beauty) Burl Ives, Judith Andersen, Jack Carson and Madeleine Sherwood in Tennesee Williams classic tale.. Directed by Richard Brooks, a wonderful jazzy score by Charles Wolcott it was nominated for 6 Academy Awards. Elizabeth Taylor should have won the Oscar for her portrayal of Maggie rather than for Butterfield 8.... It's one of my VERY favorite films....
Follow Ups:
A very watered down version of the Tennessee Williams play. There is a 1984 version with Tommy Lee Jones, Jessica Lang, and Rip Torn that was to me much better.
Big speakers and little amps blew my mind!
the cast in the film is light years ahead of the acting talent in the TV version.... Jessica Lange doesn't exude the kind of steamy sexuality that Elizabeth Taylor did....
It made more sense to me. It also seemed more authentically Southern. There was talk of homosexuality in the play, but AFAIC no real homosexuality, although I don't have any interest in analyzing CoaHTR.
True, nobody really beats E. Taylor for sexuality. To me her best scene of the all time is in "Taming of the Shrew," when Richard Burton has her pinned down on a pile of wool, and her magnificent breasts are heaving to and fro while she struggles. That seen was awesome, and much too short. :)

Showing now on Netflix...
I had seen bits and pieces before but never the entire movie. ALL the four main characters were excellent in their roles. Especially Ms. Taylor... Richard Burton IMHO never really received the kind of accolades he deserved during his career. Nominated yes...but never won.. Peter O'Toole would be another that is in that same category...
My friend has a DVD of Suddenly Last Summer. A great movie. I want to see again another great movie of TW, The Sweet Bird of Youth. Not found on Netflix yet.

has there been a more beautiful woman on screen... runners up IMHO would be Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe... All three exuded a certain sexuality which has never been matched....
***The Sweet Bird of Youth. Not found on Netflix yet.***
It is there as DVD.
