The upper peninsula of Michigan around Copper Harbor is nice if you can stand cold winters and snow until the climate changes.

We actually had looked closely at the Lakes areas. KC, however, - tinear 07:48:17 09/20/20 (2)
won out for the milder climate; it's on the edge of the dry(ing) zone and it has a big-city atmosphere in a relatively small size. And there's the BBQ...
Detroit popped up on our radar, too, but it's a little too edgy for us old coots.
