In Reply to: RE: Bergman“s Saraband, or another boring, intellectual film whoes seemingly never will end... posted by patrickU on September 18, 2007 at 09:01:40
I thought that this was one of his best efforts.
Follow Ups:
A wonderful film oscillating between bitterness, frankness, the beauty of God and the impossibility to believe, the some time very astonishing hateful moments and I felt like a voyeuristic stranger, the erotic scenes between father & daughter, the woman as the more intelligent part of a couple, the perfect digital portrait fiiting Bergman way of seeing perfectly...
Well....
Have you seen " Faithless "?-

No wonder...You recommend it...In fact I learnt also later it was very autobiographical of Mr. Bergman himself.
Just saw Saraband for the first time recently, then shortly afterwards rewatched Faithless.
Wonderful "boring intellectual" stuff they are. Can't seem to get enough.

I suspect movies like this are not for everyone, that is given, after all that is why there is always the Sopranos.
But if you like that sort of insightful movies, you will be hard pressed to find better ones.
