... but it's a narrow genre he ploughs and I know a lot of people didn't much like The New World.
Follow Ups:
nothing short of artwork....I did like The New World...I do think it would have been a stronger film with someone else in the lead role... to my mind Farrell is a weak actor. It is a real shame that Malick's career hasn't been more prolific...I have read that he is working on a new project called "The Tree Of Life"...no other information other than that....
With the insider trading mmmm knowledge from some of the posters here... does anyone have a list of the films Mallick worked on during his "holiday" from Hollywood?
As I understand it from Bob Shelton (the writer who did the first review of Dylan and later became a film reviewer) Mallick moved to France and occasionally worked on rewrites and similar projects but would not allow his name to be used.
I have no confirmation of this, but, if true, it would be very interesting to know which the films were.
Perhaps more for us than it would be for him!
As unlikely as it sounds Mallick did a treatment for Dirty Harry but none of it was used. He turned down The Elephant Man and wrote an unused version of Great Balls Of Fire.
This is from IMDB.
More digging needed here.
I liked The Straight Story too....
