Mine is the “Waitress”… a waitress from the American South, is trapped in an unhappy marriage to a jealous, controlling and abusive man. Jenna works in Joe's Pie Diner, where her job duties include creating the unique pies of the day. Jenna's special pie creations, and her many fantasies about possible pie creations, often reflect the events in her life, such as the "I Don't Want Earl's Baby" pie (aka Bad Baby pie) she invents after confirming her unexpected pregnancy. Jenna longs to run away from her dismal situation, and is hiding money to do so. (Wiki).

Follow Ups:
A fine little film, curiously there's a key sentence in the film that is spoken in Czech. If I may give it away, a women is asked if she still loves her estranged husband, and she answers (in Czech) no, I love you.
As mentioned below. The premise sounds contrived in the telling, but on the screen it's beautifully achieved.
Again, the distribution system in this country sucks, as films like this barely get released and promoted.
If you like this see Control.
Almost no one saw this fine film as it was barely released in North America, but this little movie, written and directed by Shane Sellers, is one of the best British films of past few years.
This Is Englasnd takes a hard, gritty and intelligent look at a troubled 12 year old in 80's England - it's both hilarious, sad and frightening all at once. You've never seen skinhead culture protrayed like this. If Ken Loach was subtler and had a sense of humor, he'd be Shane Sellers.
Sellers also made Dead Man's Shoes, TwentyFour Seven and A Room For Romeo Brass, all interesting and none of which you've probably seen. If Loach and Leigh are the grand old men of British indie cinema then Shane Meadows, Michael Winterbottom and Joe Wright ar the "Young Turks". Dunno where that puts Danny Boyle, maybe in the middle ;-) Probably back in Old Blighty for now as his Hollywood forays (A Life Less Ordinary) were not so hot. (Sunshine was an indie shot in Sweden.)
On another note, I agree Zodiac is underrated. It came out early in the year, and as usual, studios saved some of the strongest films for end of year. Bleh. Like adults only want to go to movies in the fall and winter. No wonder so many good movies end up as "sleepers" e.g. Waitress, Once, Control, et al.
A really really good film.
Same goes for your 3 at the end too.
Waitress won the audience award at last year's Brisbane Film Festival.
It may not be a sleeper but this movie about the German Stasi (sp?) in the mid 80s is a perfectly excecuted movie that is engaging and a terrific thriller. Almost as good as Army of Shadows and a similar story of the few that rise against the government oppression.
Do yourself a favor and watch 'The Lives of Others'
One of the best movies I have seen....
Best movie I've seen in a while. What a great way to end the movie -- the quiet, unspectacular and poignant recognition of the sacrifice made in resisting the machination of the state.
...although as it won a 2007 Oscar and was critically acclaimed I dunno if it qualifies as a sleeper. It played for 2 months at our local Landmark Cinema in Indy.
so I wanted to make others aware and not miss it

I was riveted by "Awake".
but was actually a decently entertaining film. Good suggestion.

You guys shouldn't knock Waitress until you've seen it. It was very good and a pretty disturbing watch(in real life one of the main actresses...who also directed it was murdered during the final stages of the movie). This is not a chick-flick and it was marketed all wrong. Much more akin to Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore or The Good Girl than a Sandra Bullock movie.
My pick is for the awesome documentary King Of Kong. Total nail-biting look at the competition & ongoing feud between these two guys trying to break the world record for the high-score on Donkey Kong.

This forum's layout is confusing! Some people respond in the subject line and some in the message area. It sucks to keep looking back and forth. Why does everyone do that here? I wasn't even seeing the individual subject lines at first. I was just seeing (nt) in the message are which I thought meant No Thanks. I've never seen a forum that used this specific layout.
