I have come to look forward to whatever Judd Apatow decides to produce- he has a talented repertory of actors, there has been sharp writing, and some funny smart movies like Superbad and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. And the previews looked OK. The director is an indie director, and I saw Snow Angels and thought it was a fine ultra-depressed indie film. In his interviews, he talked about how he really also loved trash movies- that should have been a warning.
It started out OK. The star, Seth Rogen, is an interesting character, and his drug dealer, soon to be buddy, is also interesting. There are some funny scenes.
But somewhere around the halfway mark, this turns into a really dumb action movie. Explosions, fights and car chases. As an action movie, it is not much. The comedy and relationships are put on the back burner. It gets kind of dull.
Not my cup of tea.

and Superbad, if you please!

...are:1. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
2. Knocked Up
3. 40 Year Old Virgin
4. SuperbadHaven't seen Pineapple yet - it looks like a DVD rental - but I'd expect it to rank toward the bottom of the list from what I've seen (the trailers), what I've read and what I've been told from people who have seen it.
and found them both funny and a bit tender. These were relationship movies...although Superbad used the form of a high school sex comedy, it also mixed in a lot of very human relationships.
This was sort of trying to do the same thing in the form of a stoner comedy- but IMHO, went off the tracks into a war between drug dealing gangs, involving shooting, chases, and lots of fights. None of this worked for me. The great part about these Apatow productions is the witty repartee- very evident in the two movies you mention- and also here to some degree. If this has a redeeming value, it is that...but I did not enjoy the action, and that's at least half the movie.
..
Add "Knocked Up" to the list of drek passing as smart entertainment.
As the guy who jumped off the 20-story building shouted as he passed the 10th Floor "So far..so good!"
Hey Beavis.....pull my finger!

a comparision from someone who has seen all three is what I was looking for.
