In BluRay and boy was I happy to also have a French audio track, as the original soundtrack even with undertitles would have been hard to catch on!
The only critic, negative I mean are a few outdated special effects. It is what I mean ever and ever again, the SE get older by the day.
Well for the rest a perfect film craft, sure it is no John Huston nor John Ford but the actors are so strong and the film shines with intelligence like a super nova.
This is for what this forum is all about...
PS: One thing I may have not like, is the treatment reserved to natives Indians here.

I'll have to try that. I liked LD a lot. I can just imagine Tommy Lee Jones sounding like a grizzled Belmondo.....

I sometimes watch the three most recent STAR WARS films in French. It makes the wooden dialog much less painful - especially that in ATTACK OF THE CLONES which is insufferable in English and downright silly in Spanish.

Something like MONTY PYTHON is best in the native English as it loses something in translation.

Now, how was that for tangental travel?

  It was good...Most films dialog or books are best in their original edition.
  Of course some time the person who make the traduction is better than the original artist.

I think it really is the best postmodern Western, gritty and realistic, and the performance of Duvall is just wonderful-the way Augustus McCrae squeezes every drop of joy that he can out of life is so vivid, always with a twinkle in his eye. At the very end, wanting the whore in the saloon to keep playing.......

    It's hard to understand your comments but, if you mean the characters made those anti-Native-American comments, it's understandable. If it seemed the film portrayed the Natives as many traditional American films did, that's reprehensible in light of when L D was made.

      At the time of the making it should have been more differenciated, I fully agree.

      So they shouldn't portray the era of the story as it was?
      
      If they'd soft peddled the treatment of NA's you'd criticize it for being a whitewash and not revealing how horribly they were treated.

        If NA are portrayed as "savage," less human than the cowboys, then it's reprehensible. Some Hollywood directors of the "old days" actually respected Indians and it's obvious. Others only portrayed caricatures.
