I saw Quantum of Solace over the weekend, the first time I have gone to see a movie since our first child was born more than five years ago. A new Tom Cruise film made the highlight reel. He plays a German soldier, with some scenes from the desert. I presume this involved the plot in which Rommel was involved to kill Hitler.
Now, I have enjoyed some of Tom Cruise's films for what they are. But Cruise, as a German soldier, eyepatch and wavy hair and all? Maybe the production will sell the film, but I am having a difficult time with that casting. I am not sure if Cruise produced or directed, but heck, even Clint Eastwood and George Clooney direct some very good films in which they do not appear or play the lead because they are not right for the part.
At least he does not appear to fake a German accent.

and centered it around himself. Instead of a thoughful movie that might capture some of the TV series mood he made it an ego trip about an action star. I felt he totally missed the boat and did not respect the intent of the original show. It seems to be a trend about Cruise....

Kinda sucks when rich actors impose themselves one screenplays not suited for them. I can't watch Tom Cruise without thinking of that fairy thing he did thing with the dragon.

I don't know when John Wayne played a Roman but he played Mongol Genghis Khan, eyes and all.

John Waynes "Roman" line: "Surely this man was the Son of God" ( spoken in his customary drawl )
Can't remember the film
I guess he + Marlon Brando had the same speech therapist

I forgot that one; "The Greatest Story Ever Told"; but certainly Wayne played it like a German who joined the Roman Army!

Wayne's line was "Truly this man was the son of God". The story goes that the director, George Stevens, asked Wayne to redo the line with more awe. So Wayne said "Aww, truly this man was the son of God".
Actually I don't think it's true, Wayne was no dummy, but it's a good story.
