It's playing on four screens here at one theater alone.
Follow Ups:
If you've ever wondered how James Dean might have looked as a vampire, not to mention how he probably would've played the role, this movie is a must see.
The characters are believable and while the pacing is a little slow it helps to build character interest and deepen the curiosity about individual characters, their families and the history of vampirism and native American culture in the region. Twilight also sets itself apart from reliance on many of the 'laws' governing the genre by doing away with some stereotypes while introducing new twists and complications.
This film isn't perfect by any means, but it is fun and not a waste of time or money, IMHO. There is obviously a series intended (based upon the book series) and due to the huge opening week success, I suspect more revelations about the characters histories, adversarial intrigue, evolution and survival among human-kind will be forthcoming in future films. Oh, Twilight is also recommended to those who are fans of baseball films (no spoilers)! ;O)
Three & 1/2 fangs on a 5 fang scale.

All giggling pre and post pubescent teens. I hadn't even heard of the books until this week.
Not havong seen Twilight, I can't say this one is definitively better, but I'd give it ***
"Let The Right One In".
Sweedish import, very thought provoking. Not a laugh in it, but more than a bit of adolescent angst. Playing at one screen in Dallas, the Angelica. Not sure if it's showing in Gritssissippi.
True Blood ain't bad either. Building up to a nice season one finale (hopefully not the series finale)

It was renewed some months ago; lucky us. I wish some enterprising sort
would do the Mick Farren vampire novels; Guillermo del Toro would be
perfect, after he does H.P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness,"
of course. Regards,
J.R.
I guess HBO was gonna pull a one and out deal i.e., John From Cincinatti.

I too saw it at the Dallas Angelika. I'm no fan of vampire movies, but the extraordinary high number of positive reviews persuaded me to give it a chance.
Most entertaining movie I've seen in the last six months, and I've seen quite a few.
I did laugh briefly, an expression of relief and joy, right at the climax of that final scene. I don't want to give anything away.
Highly recommended for the bloodsucking and non-bloodsucking public alike.
...all season.
Not in my city yet :-(
I can't imagine paying money to see Twilight, but I've got a better than even chance of seeing it for free.
The success of Twilight only insures more film & television opportunities for other teen-angst vampire book series, so you might say my wife & I have a vested interest in checking this one out. :o)
Cheers,

Its being promoted as the next "Titanic". Dreamboat-vampire-boy-goes-to-HS story. I heard a middle-aged male NPR reviewer swooning over it. He actually said that it was fun being a 13-yo girl for two hours. Whoa. Sounds like someone's gonna make a zillion bucks from pubescent shriekers.
We're chasing terrorists in the wrong place...they're on Wall St.

...moms.All my friends' tween and teen daughters can't wait to see it. Along with moms.
A critic noted that Twilight is erotic, but the eroticism of "what you want when you don't yet what what you want"...OK I guess... that kind could be just the ticket for tweens and teens. I have no idea how good/bad the movie is and I've never read the books myself. I'm starting my third traversal of Patrick O'Brien's Aubrey/Maturin canon this weekend where there are no vampires to be found.
I hear there is no actual sex in Twilight either, but plenty of hot looks. This sounds like an improvement over teen slut movies to me.
