Not havong seen Twilight, I can't say this one is definitively better, but I'd give it ***
"Let The Right One In".
Sweedish import, very thought provoking. Not a laugh in it, but more than a bit of adolescent angst. Playing at one screen in Dallas, the Angelica. Not sure if it's showing in Gritssissippi.
True Blood ain't bad either. Building up to a nice season one finale (hopefully not the series finale)

Follow Ups:
It was renewed some months ago; lucky us. I wish some enterprising sort
would do the Mick Farren vampire novels; Guillermo del Toro would be
perfect, after he does H.P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness,"
of course. Regards,
J.R.
I guess HBO was gonna pull a one and out deal i.e., John From Cincinatti.

I too saw it at the Dallas Angelika. I'm no fan of vampire movies, but the extraordinary high number of positive reviews persuaded me to give it a chance.
Most entertaining movie I've seen in the last six months, and I've seen quite a few.
I did laugh briefly, an expression of relief and joy, right at the climax of that final scene. I don't want to give anything away.
Highly recommended for the bloodsucking and non-bloodsucking public alike.
...all season.
Not in my city yet :-(
I can't imagine paying money to see Twilight, but I've got a better than even chance of seeing it for free.
The success of Twilight only insures more film & television opportunities for other teen-angst vampire book series, so you might say my wife & I have a vested interest in checking this one out. :o)
Cheers,
AuPh
