I watched this Pacino/Deniro movie over the weekend. I'd seen it a couple of times already & still find it to be a solid flick. There are a few parts where the technical production isn't so great, although maybe it was considered SOTA at the time. One of these scenes is the one in which Pacino is talking with his girlfriend while standing on his balcony overlooking the lights of the LA night - it's so superimposed it's distracting. But, on the whole I still think it a great movie.
One thing I noticed during this viewing was that Pacino vacilated between his former style of (normal) vocal delivery & his more recent technique in which he yells nearly all his lines. I don't think it was too long after Heat that he stated delivering many of his lines in this loud fashion. It's a real shame as it gets annoying very quickly.
Follow Ups:
I admired De Niro's loyalty so much I wanted to join his crew.
BTW, was Voight's face 100% makeup...he looked horrific.
This one is one of my favorites, more for the action sequences and storyline than the acting. The bank heist in particular...

subtle, but raised the tension dramaticaly. No need for a loud, over the top musical passage there.
Baba-Booey to you all!

...acting from the school of eye contact avoidance, by Al - although seeing these greats chew up film together is a guilty pleasure I'll admit, and the film ages well.
Spoiler:
Loved the part where Val Kilmer's injured character smoothly evades capture, by the grace of the deep history between he and the "Mrs." (Ashley Judd) - that was a well crafted film moment.
I need to know if there are any different versions available on DVD - extra scenes etc.?
One was Ricky Roma in Glen Garry Glen Ross.
The other was the blind veteran in Scent of a Woman
The third was carlito in Carlito's Way.
Every subsequent role has been some form of hideous fusion of these three characters. He never pulled out of them.
-------------Call it, friendo.
.. is in Donnie Brasco. I think he transcends your trio characterization there.
And hey, that's the DVD I traded with you, right? LOL Great minds, etc...

scene when he walks around outside, merrily chewing the urban scenery for minutes.
And what of "Scarface?" That easily is his most over the top film. Terrific entertainment, nonetheless.
...but I must admit to missing his vulnerable side - like his Lionel in "Scarecrow" with Gene Hackman.
