I really like Sam Raimi movies, espcially the Evil Dead Trilogy.
(Some of the Spiderman movies got a little silly, but all in all, I enjoyed them, especially the camera work.)
I'm going to see Drag Me to Hell tonight, so wish me luck!
:-)
Too bad no cameo by Bruce Campbell though!
:-(
Follow Ups:
Lots of fun. Just absurd horror. Loved the goat bit. (pun intended)
It's a Ghost House production which is famous for its 60 minute straight-to-disk movies for Showtime and Netflix. This means the budget was quite where it needs to be.
It was okay---but barely.
most seem to have waxed nostalgic about it as a throwback to the good ol' days of horror prior to the torture-and-sadism-porn that seems to have become the norm.
I don't enjoy any of them, but I'll leave the more general discussion of the genre's societal impact, and Raimi's role in 'where we are now', to others.
Saying that, I'm interested in your report-if it's as tongue-in-cheek as the reviews imply, it should be fun.

Well, I liked it a lot, (despite the other negative reviews from a couple of other posters), so take that for whatever it is worth. And all of the others leaving the theater seemed to like if very much as well. There was a bit of humor to it, most of it tongue in check, and very similar to his earlier Evil Dead films. It was well made, had a nice scary vibe to it, and the camera work was typical Sam Raimi (i.e. good).
If you like horror films like the scream series, and 1408 and The Ring, (all of which I did), then you'll probably like it.
If you like horror films like Saw, well, maybe not. (I did not like Saw myself.)I'd give two thumbs up.
My two cents worth anyway.

It sounds like I have similar tastes so I will definitely see this.
goes to show, everything doesn't need to be a masterpiece to be enjoyable. Sometimes you just want entertainment, not an on-screen treatise on Serious Film Making.

...perhaps my 18 year old daughter is.
It got very good reviews in the papers this morning, but remember, unlike the Evil Dead movies, it's rated PG-13.
I'm excited to see it on DVD later this year...

You probably won't have to wait too long. Based on the very positive review my wife wanted to see it today. Very disappointing. People were laughing at scenes where humor wasn't intended.
