Follow Ups:
plus "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "The Sopranos" (both with consistent, excellent acting even when the scripts slipped).
Also: "Monty Python's Flying Circus" for innovation and having a profound affect on my teenage mind.
“ Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination. ” -Michael McClure
I thought the Sopranos started with a good idea, but fell apart after the first couple seasons. Edie Falco gave a consistently fine performance, though.
The Wire is altogether superior. That thing is a miracle. We may never see anything like it again. Brilliantly written, directed, photographed, and the acting is about as good as it gets. Never sentimental or preachy. A great piece of work by everyone involved.
David Simon has started another series in Louisiana.
I agree completely. The Wire is beyond reproach.
Also check out David Simon's miniseries Generation Kill. I'm really looking forward to the the New Orleans series (it's about jazz musicians!).
