There is a backlog of the shows I quit watching, primarily because of the better shows overload.
Quit:
mad man
downton abbey
Breaking bad
english (house of cards)
Justified
The fall
suits
Blacklisted
Rome
The Tudors
Borgias
Bosch

Follow Ups:
Of the shows you mention, Breaking Bad and Justified are two really top rate shows.
I watch quite a few others including Banshee, Game of Thrones, Orphan Black, Luther (over but on Netflix), Silicon Valley etc.
As example, in a recent episode, we had to watch a guy wearing a rubber tire get soaked with gasoline, set on fire, and burned to death. All the while listening to his screams.
The gore has gone way over scale. The other plot material consists of "family" management stuff. Not much secrets-snatching any more.
I'm not watching another episode.
The husband is a decent enough guy for a spy. You get the feeling he's sick of the whole thing and would just like to go live a normal life somewhere.
The wife, on the other hand, is a psychotic murdering bitch from hell. Yup, she's a true believer.
Cute, though.

...have you seen
Mrs Howell was a stone fox.

...and after a few seasons it became evident that they really didn't want to get off that island anymore.

...like a lot of the shows today.
However, I can recommend a few that I really enjoyed: Hell On Wheels, Vikings, Ray Donovan, and Rome.
Honestly I never could stand The Walking Dead, the whole zombie thing has been done to *death* (heh, heh) by so many movies. And I quickly tired of Breaking Bad, too. Having seen 1st hand the utter destruction that accompanies meth use, I had no interest in having it served up to me on a weekly basis for "entertainment"...

I wish they would bring back the West Wing and Boston Legal.
But your list has given me some shows to look into.
I bored of Walking Dead and dropped it mostly once they got to the prison and the goofy Governor plot. Just made me want to watch Dawn of the Dead 1978 instead.
West Wing and Boston Legal are pathetic shows according to me. My wife unfortunately loves them.
Cheers

...mine loves Grey's Anatomy (she's an RN) and the Bachelor series, says it's for the exotic locales :)
I have to admit from the little I've seen, like most reality TV series,
they create a whole lot of drama through the editing and who they keep on the show.
...any except Homeland.
Sorry I missed Breaking Bad - now all I need is the time to sit down and watch all 5 seasons.
But next year X-Files will be coming back.
.... as we previously found TV completely a waste of valuable life. Of course we could buy it, but we refuse.
BUT.....
A very dear friend here in NZ insisted we check out "Breaking Bad" and provided us with all five seasons. We got addicted immediately and blew through them, wanting more when it ended. Very entertaining. Apparently, "Better Call Saul" is a spin-off, and others already have posted on that, but we'll wait until it runs its course before taking the plunge (if I am still alive by then, that is.)
Michael Percy is a dear friend of ours, and he then sent us DVD sets of some Danish TV shows, "The Killing" and "Borgen". Again, very addictive stuff.
No doubt about it, TV is getting much better, especially with all the cable networks bringing life to what I concluded decades ago was a useless, boring medium. Still would never subscribe or bother, unless complete seasons are in the offing. Much more fun to really blow through them, one after another. But those who completely dismiss the medium in today's world are probably not doing themselves a favor, as I humbly learned.
You'll likely enjoy the series immensely, mkuller. Have fun. We sure did! :-)
(And a new X-Files series sounds like it could be promising, too, what with the SOTA CG that will afford a level of realism previously unrealized in the previous iteration.)
BTW, as a historic aside, I was the original attorney handling the X-Files death case, where a very sweet and wonderful man lost his life in that terrible electrical accident where all those hard-working Grips got fried when an overhead HV power line was not de-energized properly and all the firemen and police stood by while these hapless workers built a "scaffolding of death" right before their collectively stunned (and IMHO, horribly negligent) eyes. Truly tragic!
Never started watching any of them. None of them seem to catch my interest.
...clarify which Borgia. The one with Irons sucked.

The one that Victor recommends is called "Borgia". The Jeremy Irons version is called "The Borgias". So far, I can only find "Borgia" in French versions, gots to get me some good olde English...

.
It streams from there.
BTW - I am not sure I really "recommend" it - I don't want to be swamped with divorce cases liabilities! :) But in my view it is more dynamic and better made than The Borgias, which was a snoozer, I thought. And like any long show it has better and not so good moments, so proceed at your own peril! :)

I just gotta get off my dead ass and get a long enough cable to connect the Oppo to the router. Then I'll be streaming like a BIG DOG!!

Very brutal, bloody and at times almost unbearable, but a better made one, and close to historical truth, as far as I can tell. Also available through Netflix streaming.

All of my sources show the Jeremy Irons version. I've watched the 1st season of that and have to agree that it is merely "ok". I think that Irons' portrayal of the Pope is especially weak, he just doesn't do sinister very well.
Oh well, back to scouring the web...

Your credibility is on the line Comrade Khomenko, currently downloading the entire 3 year saga. Your standards are high, so I'm sure you have nothing to worry about, bubbe...[g]

You might want to read Wonka's comments on it, he is the true student of the series. It is not an easy family viewing, by any stretch of imagination, gruesome and naturalistic, but has many interesting characters, charming young ladies and ruthless men.

The Breaking Bad, just got better IMHO.
Mad Men, an acquired taste. I can understand why one might quit, acting and direction are clunky at times, but the re-creation of the period keeps me coming back for more. This season of Justified, its last, is very good.
Some I've quit
Secrets and Lies
House of Lies
Ray Donovan
Scandal
Heroes, 1st season good, second was an utter disaster
Walking Dead, on life support for me. Still watching but I find myself complaining constantly about our heroes' actions this season.
Defiance
Revolution
Once Upon a Time
Under That Dome

"E Burres Stigano?"
killed the passion for it. I'll probably catch-up later.

...is a surprise guilty pleasure, and I've purchased all five seasons on BD.
But generally, I don't watch television. There's good reason it's called LCD TV, with LCD being defined as 'lowest common denominator'.
