I still laugh when I remember the scene where the quaaludes take effect and he has to crawl out of the building.

the critical side of the film is that all that fun and foolishness came at expense of clients and investors. Good fun. I'll drag it out again this week.
except no one was ever as over-the-top as was DiCaprio/Scorcese in this movie.
There is definitely a 'not-so-subtle' message to anyone watching this movie. And that is that all the different venues on the U.S. Stock exchange are indeed vulnerable to scammers such as Jordan Belfort.
Indeed the financial welfare of the US economy is made vulnerable to scoundrels such as he. And by extension this affects all of us, 401-K holders and non-investors.
The early scene with Mark Hanna ((Matthew McConaughey) really sets the tone. The message was that stock brokers are more interested in maximizing their comi$$ion$ than making solid investments for their customers/clients.
Whether or not the NYSE is really this corrupt, the movie does suggest that 'some' stockbrokers and many of their customers/clients are all about making an easy killing in the shortest amount of time.

on his show and the scriptwriter said, after researching everything, that he took all his money out of the stock market. He did not want to be any part of the game nor finance any of the said behaviour.
