We were late adopters of this show, had given up the "premiums movie channels" on cable years ago and had moved on to rental BDs from Netflix for the weekends. But my daughter and her husband constantly hounded us to check it out, so we, just last year started to get the episodes on BD from Netfix. A disc a weekend. Ended up becoming BIG fans. In fact, since the season five series wasn't going to be available on BD until next year, we bit the bullet and ordered HBO, just to get our fix ASAP.
Word of warning, some of the BDs will have 2 episodes, some will have three. Make sure you know what you have (we missed one episode, assuming they all had only two per disc).
BTW, I found the Game of Thrones Wiki, a big help in getting up to speed with all the characters.

That ALMOST happened to me last night. :) Caught it in time.

...disc #3 contains just one single episode!
Not sure why such jumps?

Don't know, most of the time it would be the last episode that had a disc to itself.
You have probably noticed by now each episode ends as a cliffhanger. No happy endings. One of the reasons the show is so addicting and encourages binge watching. Good stuff
