A Russian film about a lost (in every sense) young boy and the heroic efforts of a band of unlost volunteers seeking to find him. It captures the soul of modern Russia.
Follow Ups:
If you liked the Loveless, then definitely try to locate this:

Our local library has it, yours might too. Very good film on similar subject.

. . . how come they allow a film like that to be made? Would a film like that been allowed under the commies?
They are still under commies, BTW. They adapt, but don't let them fool you. Look no further than their elections. One opposition leader killed, the other one simply prohibited from running.
But yes, the soul is easily more rotten than ever.

. . . how come they're free to travel now?
So one opposition leader was killed and the other was prohibited from running? Oh yeah - weren't those the guys who were polling around 2% - 3% each? And don't they have people arrested and in custody for the murder?
BTW, do you think any of the numbers in the meme below might have had anything to do with Putin's vote margin? Do you think if we had a leader in the West who had these kinds of numbers, we might be favorably disposed to vote for him?

...of communist rule in Russia, you will recognize many different periods. There were even periods when people were allowed to travel nearly freely, and when they were put in jail for such ideas. There were periods of starvation, and then period of free enterprise, ruthless purges and then some thaw.
But times are changing, and with them the specifics of the rule. What remains constant, however, are two things: the authoritarian rule by the communists, and the slavish attitude of their populous.
I might surprise you - I do not see the elections as fake. The majority of people there are idiots, and they did voluntarily vote for this new Joseph II king. He is giving what they want ("Powerful" Russia) while destroying all the opposition, and they just love it. They loved the annexation of Crimea, and they would love much more - much like the USSR did in the thirties, when they kept grabbing territories, and, together with Hitler, started WWII.
I could tell you so much more, but this is film forum. Unfortunately, aliens and blood and gore are far more exciting to many than history.

. . . and we should probably cease and desist our discussion for now - besides, I've got to go watch RT! ;-)
I know nothing about the soul of modern Russia, but resist going to movies with extreme emotional demands.. I know bad things happen in reality, I just choose to avoid selected themes when seeking entertainment. I can handle classic tragedy, just can't use a lot of random horror.
Even when the thematic device is effective, people with exploding body parts, flying blood, missing or dead kids, are themes I avoid. This child is sensitive, and I plan to keep it that way.
I enjoy a good movie, but don't have to see them all.
it does not have; borgeois ennui it does have. However, it also has a lot of matter-of-fact heroics in it, as portrayed in the character and behavior of the searchers.
...but take a look at the one I linked - it is deeply human and very well made.
The kind of a movie our friend Patrick would have loved.
