Prediction: they will get it wrong.
Behind the saccharine kiddy-oriented scenes in the original were subtle digs at the effects of feminism and careerism on the two-parent family, and a satiric take on wealth vs happiness.
Disney had a genius for incorporating adult themes into a family-friendly setting without condescending or what we would call political correctness.
Follow Ups:
in his grave, watching what the parent company has done to his brand and the world he created....
We need to go back to the 30's.
While I am far from perfect, I hope I never get to a stage in life where I will be complaining , as an adult, about Mary Poppins.A kiddy movie, which I haven't even seen, will never have any interest in seeing, and will , in all likelihood, probably never see , because it's a product for kids. Mary poppins comes back to the same kids, now grown,so not a full remake, just carrying over a popular character and a good marquee name.
Some would call that a curse from god.
I recently saw the trailer , looked ok to me , like a big money pro project from disney, with much better special effects than possible in the first, a good point , since mart poppins is a magical character. And I will take emma blunt over julie andrews any day.
I do give andrews some credit for showing her tits in the victor victoria film , but she was always too brightly polished and uptight for me. I doubt they missed much with this film, Dick van dyke is flashed in the trailer as a long bearded sweep, from his costume.
