Steve Nickerson , Senior V.P. , High Definition Media , at Warner Bros. says " The standalone player market is by far the biggest driver of movie sales in the LONG TERM . This is simply because those who buy a standalone player are interested soley in buying and watching movies and other video content , whereas those with HD drives built into games consoles are primarily interested in games " .

Most of the Blu-ray players that have been sold are PS3 games consoles .
HD DVD standalone players are outselling Blu-ray standalone players .
Warner Bros. is a major studio.
Steve Nickerson's comments , are , certainly , bad news for Blu-ray and Blu-ray fans .
OTOH , Steve Nickerson's comments are good news for HD DVD and HD DVD fans .

If still undecided, go do your homework. There's plenty of FUD (particularly with regards to HD-DVD survivability) and counter-FUD going around the internet.
My take: Studio support and superior storage capacity/bandwidth give Blu-Ray the edge. Other's will disagree, some vehemently (mostly those who've bought HD-DVD hardware).
BTW, I can play both formats so I won't exactly be SOL if by some infinitesimal chance Blu-Ray loses. Same with SACD/DVD-A though clearly... "#10 !" (remember the hi-rez forum format wars?) ; DVD-A has already been trumped by Blu-Ray discs with 5.1 24/96 uncompressed PCM soundtracks AND hi-def video.

Remember that "Blu-Ray is Dead Ray" thread ?
OTOH , Oscar , you and the other SACD cheerleaders are on the losing side , wishing EMI had released The Beatles on SACD .LOL
I'm . also , on the right side for The Doors catalog that was released on DVD-A in November 2006 .
There's nothing of any significance being released on SACD .
Now , Oscar , what are you shaking your SACD pom poms for ? Some Classical SACDs that sell a handful of copies ?
LOL

... to meet the needs of new inmates. Well, I recently heard an unverified rumor that the one of the Hi-Rez audio forums may undergo a slight name change soon as a bandwidth saving measure coinciding with another Asylum expansion. The most likely candidate is DVD-Audiobahn, which would be folded into Skeet Shooting Asylum! ;0)

SACDs are better skeet shooting targets than DVD-As .
Best of all targets are the Crest SACD Crackers . They really fly apart when hit by a shotgun blast . However , all SACDs are excellent targets .
My conclusion :
DVD-As - more fun to listen to .
SACDs - more fun to hit with a shotgun blast .
LOL

... that when it comes to shooting off things (mouths, guns, etc.) you and Dick Cheney have a lot in common. ;0)
