Follow Ups:
This looks like a coordinated event. If so, I like what they did. Who can complain about BOGO ? And a plot like this would make sense. This is HD DVDs best shot at winning the Software sales edge for one (1) week out of the year. Multiple Blu-ray BOGOs could stop this. HD DVD could do the same thing later, but they'll also have to compete with upcoming Blu-ray blockbusters every week until the end of the year.
Or.... Serendipity... A perfect storm of Retailers all deciding at the same time to have Blu-ray BOGOs all at the same time at the same week HD DVDs biggest blockbuster is being released.
When one retailer does it, does the other really have a choice??
Why isn't there BOGOs for HD DVD? The speculation seems to lie in subsidizing for BD, at least that is what I've been reading.
Got what I wanted on Sunday and I had a gift card for Best Buy to boot. Made a nice little haul! :)

Yes. It was never so many stores before, both B&M, and online.> > > Why isn't there BOGOs for HD DVD? < < <
Because its being sponsored by the BDA?This is a good time to buy BD titles, unfortunately, there isn't much out there on BD that I want.
I also have to decide whether or not to stick with BD, which will mean buying a new player.

While they have had sales here and there in the past, AFAIK, just about every disc in every store (in the US) is on sale in some form or another, which is a first. I don't think its a coincidence that its happening this week.

That's what I was originally told. I should have confirmed first. :-(
Circuit City *supposedly* has all titles under $30 on sale. At least some Frys have all titles under $30 on sale (BOGO). BB only has a dozen or so.
Its still a coordinated effort nonetheless.

And that goes for all kinds of A/V products and other items, not just BDs.

Some of the BDAs folks have hinted at a massive hardware sales blitz for the Holidays.
...for $398.84 plus tax, for one day only (today).
I'll give Transformers its due credit as it appears many are interested in it but I would not say it is a blockbuster HD DVD! Therw would be so many more other titles that would peak my interest if I had a player.
including this tidbit:
"When asked about the competing BLU-RAY/HD-DVD technologies, Alan Bell (tech specialist for Paramount) said their main goal was to put something out that could play on all HD-DVD players, including the oldest ones. It was noted that BLU-RAY doesn't have this amount of accessibility at the moment."

It will be a big seller. It did well at the box office, and its the kind of movie that looks good in HD. I expect stores to sell out of it.

Concepts such as plot, character development, acting, etc... are secondary to the the whiz bang, kablooie special effects which make "Transformers" such an attractive movie despite the poor critical ratings. I think if would have been a decent demo disk IF it had had a lossless audio track.
Blu-ray fanboys are having a good time playing up the rumors (with a Paramount source) that a TrueHD track was left out because of space constraints.
