Free shipping was quick and no slip-ups.So far I've caught up on some 'guilty pleasure' TV series titles from the past (Magnum PI, Dexter, Route 66, Veronica Mars, Wanted Dead or Alive and Best of Checkmate), Amazing Journey - Story of The Who, Ratatouille, Jazz Singer and the 3rd installment of the Treasures from the American Film Archives series.
No HD discs yet (all were OOP and back-ordered; probably won't see those titles until December, but I'm patient). Next week the restored 1st season of Star Trek will be out on HD/std DVD and should be available for 20% off. It's still steep, but Paramount milks these titles, and since they spent a small fortune improving the special effects footage, ...well it is tempting (no decision here yet).
Cheers,

They've got the first 2 season done (remastered), and are working on the third. They are broadcasting the new versions. From what I've seen, they look quite good. Colors are bright and vivid. The new FX look pretty good. It wasn't in HD, but it still looked decent.
I can't wait. I hope they put out the second season soon. :-)
JackEDIT: The Doomsday Machine is on now (season 2). It looks incredable FX-wise.
:O)
.
I don't have this series on any format yet (because of price) and this might be the one to get . But I didn't like the price and I'm still leery about combo playback.
I guess I can wait until things quiet down a bit. Aside from waves of blockbuster releases, this is the BOGO season and those $30 prices for movies seem to be disappearing under an onslaught of format war/holiday season sales I'm having trouble resisting.

What exactly are you leery about? IME the HD DVD/DVD-V combo discs work just fine.
Like I said, I can afford to wait a bit; I'm not sure I want to bite yet; especially with 10-12 movies still in shrink-wrap and more goodies this coming Tuesday and next Tuesday.... and the Tuesday after that.....
Let the other folks be guinea pigs for potential HD issues on a $200 TV series. Heck, I picked up 2 HD-A2s for that price. :)
BTW, what horror stories? I haven't heard any related to this series, and it won't be out until next Tuesday.
AuPh
I haven't heard much lately so they might have solved it by now.
Outside of some bad pressings (Mexican plant?) there haven't been alot of problems with combos, except for the price. Many of the horror stories you hear have been spread by Blu-boys. I have over 15 or so combos, and only had a problem with CoM, and that was fixed with an update. They haven't had any problems in quite a while now. The prices are another story. :-(
I ordered the Star Trek set, its gotten good reviews, and its clear they put alot of time and effort into restoring them. I have second generation, but nothing of the original, so I gave in. :-)

"Day After Tomorrow", "28 Days Later", 28 Weeks Later", and "Eragon".
The sticker was half priced off but I tried to show the newspaper ad which showed "Buy One Get One(BOGO) Free" to the cashier to try to get half off again (hehehe). She actually bothered to check the regular pricing, darn it !
This can't be too good for the studios; I'm sure they want to consistently charge more than $14 for even Catalog titles on HD media.
Waiting for Warner? Warner is having distribution issues. The HD DVD Ocean's Trilogy is sold out and/or not in stock all over. They really need to get their act together. I ended up getting the BD version which Amazon did have.
Looking forward to Star Trek next week.

1) That the manufacturers are having trouble pressing the discs (unlikely), or...
2) That the demand is out-stripping the supply.
Also, if it's the latter reason, it probably has more to do with store inventories (double or triple inventories in certain cases for Std., HD & Blu-ray).
The latter isn't necessarily a bad thing, except for the delays involved. If the demand is healthy it bodes well for HD and/or Blu-ray and the release of many more titles.

Assuming similar distribution and the reputed issue of Blu-rays being more difficult and expensive to press, if HD discs are selling out then it may suggest that HD titles weren't stocked in appreciable quantities; that also suggests that video stores (on-line and brick & mortar) may have been caught unprepared by an increased interest in HD. It would be interesting to see some real-world sales figures sans either format's spin.
Cheers,
AuPh
They are having problems with distribution. They have upgraded their automated system, and are having a few hickups.
