and the World of Tomorrow on Blu-ray is a HUGE waste of money. Not that I don't like the movie, I do. The problem is it was made to look "old" and man, does it. I really thought all the digital effects would look great, but no. Seems like every edge is diffuse (and purposefully so). Even the actor’s eyes don’t sparkle.
I didn't really want a next generation machine, but after a Christmas party my wife and I stopped by our local A/V dealer (have been friends for decades), and one of the owners told her about the Blu-ray price drop. I gotta admit, Spidy III is pretty amazing, but the one referenced above is truly a waste of $25. Had the two latest Harry Potters in my hand and put 'em back. Think I’ll stick with Netflix for a while.
Oh well, a poor choice. Just wanted to let you know.
Happy New Year to all, Joe

Yesterday watched the latest "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" on regular DVD through my upsampling Denon and thought the player was on the blink due to the excessive noise on the picture.
If the DVD's picture quality's crap I wouldn't be too optimistic about a HD transfer that's for sure.
Best Regards,
Chris redmond.
Hi,
It could have been a poor transfer. Who knows. I have the first three in the series and each is first rate. I'm surprised to hear this.
BTW, I may have been a bit harsh on Sky Captain. Mostly it looks like crap but it does have it's moments - and it is a cool sci-fi adventure flick.
Cheers, Joe
I just watched "The Compass" at the theaters and it's picture really sucked for a new film, maybe they were simply trying to hide the CGI artifacts with "crap" de-focused, filming. or maybe I just prefer new movies to have that 3-D-ish with hyperdetailing.
