In Reply to: RE: NFL Broadcast in surround-sound would be cool. posted by kvk on January 06, 2008 at 14:13:39
I've viewed a few NFL games from my HDTV Cable TV box in Dolby Digital 5.1 so I assume that is "surround sound". Isn't it?![]()

but not really as big a deal as it would seem to be. Either that or I'm so accustomed to it that the surround sound has become routine. The HD picture has not :)

Most broadcasters have the commentator guys coming from the center channel and field sounds from the satellite speakers.

Seems like everything was coming from the center when I watched the SD/Tenn game. This was on Vios on when of the HD stations. Could it be that only some carriers or networks broadcast the games in 5.1?
Would you need to do anything to turn on 5.1 capability if you have SPDIF running from the cable box to the receiver?
Or maybe it's Dolby ProLogic and you'd have to turn on a decoder?
Yes, some networks use true 5.1 and a few use either stereo or the primitive Dolby Surround.
