Not surprising as the underpricing the PS was Sony's intentional all along. It allowed them to surpass other competitors in the game industry and they make most of their money off of the games they sell, much like computer printers vis a vis the ink cartridges they sell for them.

That's an amazing revelation. You should immediately let the game industry know about this - for some strange reason they believe the PS3 has been, and continues to be, substantially outsold by its competitors.
at its inception, the main rival was Microsoft's X box, IIRC, and Microsoft debuted their machines a full year before Sony did. EWven at the iintrodutionthe PS were priced cheaper than any stand alone BD player and with more features. This was a deliberate decision on the part of Sony in order to enter the gaming industry in a big way and make itself a major contender. Other contenders like Wii were on even in the picture at the time.

...the flip side is that machine is an incredible value for the consumer.
The Sony haters can't have it both ways.

You were stupid to adopt HD DVD.
I tried to tell you--patiently at first--but you were more interested in insults.
It's over. You lost.

... I've paid very little for the gear and discs (my wife and I also have a back-up player in our second system). FYI, I have both HD formats, but that's only because I can afford them. IMHO, there's very little difference between HD-DVD and Blu-ray quality-wise. Here's a clue: For Blu-ray to succeed it's going to have to make big inroads in price point lowering to have much of an impact on DVD satisfied Joe Sixpack. Otherwise, Blu-ray will remain in niche city and SONY cheerleaders will be be stuck waiting for Ella Fitzgerald to sing the blues, opera style, as envisioned by Yogi Berra. ;O)Cheers,

that Sony wasted too much on R&D and are making a loss despite overpricing the PS3 for what it does.
Now that I've supplied an alternative, I must get back to my PS3 and another BD movie. Personally I think the PS3 is good value but others can always find ways of claiming it isn't if they so choose.

The breakdown on PS3 components--including the Cell chip, four USB ports, wifi, blue tooth, Blu-ray hard drive--comes to a few hundred dollars more than list price. It was about $850.
Bashing Sony is fine (except when it involves defending TOshiba or MS)...but the PS3 has among the lowest failure rates, best support and great quality.
Enjoy your BDs! I just watched In the Line of Fire and the definition is so good I almost fell out of my chair.

could be part of your problem
That obviously doesn't include you.Analysis upon the release of the PS3 showed it was selling for several hundred dollars less than what it would cost to put together a comparable DVD/blu-ray/cd player with a Blu-ray hard drive, wifi, four USB ports, bluetooth, HDMI, etc.
