480I component Sony XBR CRT and Krell 400xi Int amp.
I have the Krell DVD Showcase and it's pretty good but
I am looking to see if there is better out there.

  ...the Arcam FMJ DV27 would be a good choice; it is cheaper than and video quality is better than Esoteric/Krell/etc. Plus, it does a beautiful job converting PAL to NTSC for foreign films, and can be made region-free using the remote control; whereas most of the more expensive models you've mentioned are region-locked.
