I just happened to notice this really slim DVD player from Sony at Best Buy yesterday and was amazed at its price. Progressive scan, too. Don't know anything about its performance, though.

I paid $900 for my first DVD player, a Sony DVP300 or something. It was one of the first, yes... But how does ANYBODY make money on a product with that much involved that sells for $40?
-Manufacturing costs including packaging (!)
-Shipping costs
-Distribution
-Advertising
-Store and salesman cut
HUH? I'm sure they're hoping the same guy buys a $1000 LCD, but still...
well they are made by robots or labor making a $1 a day but how can you package the thing and ship it overseas and truck it to distribution point, break the shipment down and reship to BB's everywhere and let them make a profit.
