$1388 for a 60" 1080p flatscreen at Fry's was just too good to pass up.
I'm pretty blown away that you can get something this good for so little green-PQ is excellent right out of the box. No motion artifacts, great blacks, contrast and detail, smooth like buttah on football and baseball, and blu-rays look amazing. Only negative so far is the highly reflective screen, but the light control we have (wood blinds) in our viewing room and the fact that we do at least 90% of our viewing at night make that a largely moot point for us. I took a close look at the alternatives (Panasonic S2 and Samsung C550 series) and the LG looked at least as good as the Panasonic and better than the Samsung to my eyes, and the other 2 were 58" sets.

Just had a 65" Panasonic Viera plasma delivered yesterday. We already have the 42" model in our bedroom. Both are excellent.

A 46-incher bought at Sears for $539. I ditched the standard def Dish Network & hooked up the standard outdoor antenna & holy cow! Whatta picture! I'm diggin' it.
Cheers,

Buying a new home and need two larger (than our current 46") sets. The family room is way too bright for plasma but the media room would be perfect and I'm looking 58"-60".
Any heat generation issues so far?

No problema, at all.
Mine is in a bright family room with no picture issues. I believe the heat issue is overstated and not the concern some believe.

I'd say it puts out way less heat overall than the cooling fan vent of our old JVC LCOS-I can only feel it when I place my hand an inch or closer to the top of the panel.
Some of the online forums suggest the LG sets have a higher percentage of problems than other brands (around 4%) but mine seems perfect. We just finished watching an episode of Fringe season 2 on blu-ray and it looked killer.

be about 12' away (condsiering the depth of the recliners), so heat is a concern.
"I'd like to own a squadron of tanks"
my media room is about 12' x 12', I sit about 5 feet away from a 50" Kuro and the room is a few degrees warmer after a few hours (i.e. barely noticeable when I step out of the room), but that is likely as much from my body heat as from the set, the power amps, etc.
...no heat issues here; I'd only notice if I put my hand near the screen.
Viewing distance is about right too for my tastes.
For heavens sakes! Heat from plasmas is not a big issue at all. To feel any heat from our 50" Panasonic, you have to have your hand within an inch or so of the set. All the hoopla (usually from people who don't own plasmas) about plasma 'heat issues' is a non-issue. They are NOT wall heaters!. Even if they were, the picture quality more than makes up for it. We live in the central valley of California, where summers temps regularly exceed 100 for days on end, and it heat was an issue, you would hear it from me first.
It isn't at all.
