I've got a six-month old Toshiba 55UX600U edge-lit LCD TV. Watching blu-ray on Oppo BDP-95 through monoprice HDMI cables there's flashlighting and clouding, even after I've dropped backlight setting to zero and turned up contrast.
When I watch TV-direct sources, like Vudu or the widgets fed via Ethernet, the flashlighting and clouding is considerably less noticeable.
Could my problem be the cheap HDMI cables? Any recommendations for 4-meter cables in the $60 price range?

Hi, the only good cables that really work with the new oppo units are high speed hdmi extreme w/ethernet 15.2 Gps 24 AWG cl that can be bought through www.mycablemart.com. A 6ft one cost me 16.80 plus shipping. I hope this helps.Regards, Wayne B.
Wayne -- which other cables did you compare these to? Which tests did you perform?

I do not know the cause of your clouding/flashing problem (I don't have experience with LCDs), but I can recommend the best HDMI cables I've utilized on my 65" Hitachi high-end CRT. They're made by Bluejeans Cable and in my system perform as well as Monster's expensive M1000 cable, which I also own. The Bluejeans HDMI cables are surprisingly low priced. Their customer service, too, is first class.

I use Bluejeans for my speaker cables and love 'em. Didn't occur to me they make HDMIs, I'll go make an order right now.

And called Sony. They said they could send out a tech to 'adjust' the set, but they could not fix the clouding. It's a manufacturing problem.

I don't think it's the HDMI cable, unfortunately. I've had the Monoprice HDMI cable, which, though cheap, seemed good with none of the problems you mention, and many have reported fine experience with it. However, I will say that when I switched from the Monoprice to a Wireworld Starlight cable, there was an immediate and noticeable improvement with my TV.
Don't know what could be causing the problems you mention. I had none of those with my Sony 52" LCD/LED.
Thanks for the info, Ned. I'll check out the Wireworld cables.
