I have a high-speed internet connection and have been surprised by how good the picture is on Netflix streaming.
I've been streaming a cop show with Jeremy Renner called 'The Unusual's'. Pretty good show.
For some reason the last episode is dvd only, so I ordered the last disc from Netflix.
So, I've been watching nine of these shows streaming. Then I watch on disc last night. Results?
Sound is about 50% better. HUGE IMPROVEMENT.
Picture quality is A LOT BETTER. NOT SUBTLE. Sure, when you're watching that streaming show you're thinking, 'gee, this looks pretty good'. No, it really doesn't. Not compared to dvd.

Follow Ups:
Streaming quality for me is somewhere between 480i and 720p. Not as bad as broadcast TV but not as good as HD broadcast TV. Streaming is very watchable and pleasing on my set up, but I know it is not DVD quality let alone 1080p.
Wifi streaming to an HTPC with HDMI out to my Panny 42inch Plasma.
Best,

If you want a better quality stream, stream from Vudu. Image quality is fantastic.
(I assume you are using HDMI to get the picture to your TV??) I don't know what streaming device and other equipment you're using, or how high-speed your high-speed connection is. But on my system, programs in HD are way better than DVDs, but not quite as sharp as BluRays. I've been working my way through all of the past episodes of Breaking Bad recently. There are very occasional moments when things drop down to lo-rez, but pressing STOP and restarting the streaming where I left off will bring things back to HD quality.
My streaming device is a Samsung 6500 BluRay player, which is connected to my cable modem/router by Ethernet. The TV is a new 1080p LCD set. I haven't measured the throughput of the Ethernet connection, but WiFi is coming out of that wireless router at 15 Mbps.
HDMI.
I thought it was close to DVD.
Until I ACTUALLY COMPARED IT TO DVD.
It's not close.

But what's your internet throughput going into the Oppo? I'm sure the Oppo isn't messing up the Netflix stream.
Yeah, but I don't have to buy, rent, wait and return DVDs. I'll take the tradeoff. I expect streaming quality to improve.
