I have just upgraded from my old fashioned "tubed" tv to a new Panasonic VIERA TC-P42ST30 42-Inch 1080p 3D Plasma HDTV.This is all new to me, so I thought I'd enlist your help. I will be using Time Warner HDTV and I guess I need to purchase a HDMI cable. The store that I bought the TV from said that the included HDMI cable is junk.
What should I buy for the best picture and sound? I can hear a difference between my audio cables in my two channel analog audio system.....but is there a difference between HDMI cables?
Thank you for any help/suggestions that you are willing to share with me.
Warmest regards,

I got some at Dollarama for a buck or two. They work just as well as the Monoprice cables. No digital dropouts or snow.
I did have problems with a cable that I picked up at a yard sale; I'm guessing it was bundled with an upconverting DVD player. I suspect it was defective, not just cheap.
they do make a difference.
Blue Jean is probably a good bet as well...
Hi PhilJ,
Thank you for your post! I'm curious, when you refer to the $35 Phillips HDMI at Walmart stomping the generic cable......what improvements do you notice so that I know what to look for?

truly it is not a small difference. I am sure there must be other improvements but I am not kiiding the Phillips was twice as good.
Not sure if this is a testament to how good the Phillips is or how bad the generic cable is but if you are not happy with the cable you buy you can return it.
also, I bought the Phillips cable about 3 or 4 years ago so I am not sure what is available now, also the cheapest cable Best Buy had back then was $100 so the Walmart deal really was great.
good luck
I am a fan of the bluejeans cable HDMI, uh, cable. Last I knew, it was the only one manufactured here in the USA, and it's a great, solid piece of equipment. I have a 30' run and have had great results.
Thank you to all for your suggestions. It is much appreciated!

A search here will pull up a bunch of suggestions. You will find Blue Jeans and Monoprice cables recommended widely.
I am partial to the very high-quality cables of all types offered by Blue Jeans. Their performance is high end at silly-low prices, both for video and audio. On my calibrated Hitachi 65" RPTV, their Tartan HDMI cables, for example, perform as well as my Monster M1000 megabuck cable.

What store?
Anyway, use the included cable. If you have problems with it (sparklies, dropouts, etc), get a new one. The link below will take you to monoprice.com, where you can get a 6ft Certified High Speed HDMI cable (it meets the maximum HDMI specs) for under $4. They also offer two step-up versions, though I doubt you will need their "better" cables. But should you want to purchase one, their best 6ft HDMI cable goes for a whopping $9.67 (Premium Silver Plated Certified High Speed).
Not that that affects performance, but if you need to make some turns in tight places it can be difficult. Seems the cable has a mind of its own! However, since yer usally just running it out of the back of a BD player or cable/satellite box stright up to a tv that "problem" would be non existent. In my case I had to do some twists and turns..
