You sure about that "native 720p" thing for Bell? We never used broadcast 720p video in Canada, unlike in the U.S., so I'm surprised they'd send that over some wired channel. However, leave it up to Bell to give us less for more, and go out of their way to do it...
Follow Ups:
My understanding is that 1280p is labelled "Super HD" and is rare on Bell.
Now that I think about it, somebody may have told me about the 720p thing right here in this forum some years ago, it does sound sort of familiar.
I know that there is a massive diff between the quality of what you get OTA and what Bell/Rogers streams, even on the fibre connections. I think most people have no idea. I have seen the streamed stuff and while I assume it adjusts to the available bitrate, if it's 720p that would also explain the diff.
The "local" (to Toronto) NBC affiliate from Buffalo is of the highest quality when it's broadcasting network programming, very impressive, even the sound is top-notch for the technology. I like to give them kudos whenever I can, broadcasters in general have gotten sloppy over the years (e.g. like the CBC, was higher quality 5 years ago).
