Seeking Help/Advice: New Problem with SONY SXRD Set (very long)

Hi,

I have a SONY KDS-55A2000 LCoS SXRD set. It has developed a problem with the color green taking over much of the picture. FYI I changed lamps back in May. I tried the old lamp this morning to see if that might be the problem. It wasn't.

This set was given to me by SONY September 2006 as a replacement for a very defective 50in XBR1 (one of the sets involved in the class action lawsuit). I mention this because according to SONY (yesterday) this A2000 does NOT fall under the warranty extension provision of the settlement. So -- I am out of warranty and am guessing SOL.

In researching the problem, it seems I may have what has been called the "green blob" problem. I'm not sure of course, as the screen has different look than that described elsewhere for the green blob. On my set, with an all white background, both right and left portions as well as the top 1/3 all show a green tint. Colors like red and blue look okay, but the menu boxes look green when set to gray or tan, and look copper-like when set to red. With program material from all sources flesh tones are impossible to get correct, almost all brownish objects (and most black portions as well) appear greenish. In addition -- with that all white screen, you can see what appear to be separate panels - maybe 5 or 6 of them, across the screen.

I was hoping that someone here might know how to access the service menu on this set, and whether there is a convergence adjustment. I remember someone (Jack G maybe) mentioning convergence on SXRD sets, but of course the manual sez nothing on this.

Sorry for the long post, but if I could get this thing fixed by making adjustments without getting service guys involved that would be great. My big fear is that a service guy will take one look and say "new optical block - that will be $600 plus labor." I am guessing on the price of course but since the OB is apparently both the brains and heart of these sets, the price could be significantly higher.

Thanks for reading. Sorry for the long post. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thanks, Joe
