shipping and buzz

Your shipping experience is definitely in the minority. As you can tell from the packaging, plasma display manufacturers go to great lengths to ensure that their products arrive in perfect condition. The most fragile part is the glass/substrate and the packaging is geared toward protecting this area first and foremost. Unfortunately, there's no way to 100% guarantee that a problem won't occur every now and then. Sorry to hear that your panel didn't make it in perfect condition. Hope the second time's a charm.

As for the buzz, all displays buzz -- to what extent is another matter. In order to hear my plasma buzz, the room needs to be very quiet and you must get closer than 1ft from the front of it. It's mounted on a wall mount, but it's not mounted to a wall. I built a frame that sits on top of the fireplace, but there's an open space behind the display. The former home owner had one of those 32" or 36" box displays and the fireplace area was custom built to allow for that 180lb monster to sit above the fireplace. Most wall mounted displays are mounted on a wall and the wall unfortunately serves as a reflector of any sounds emanating from the rear of the display. Room acoustics also play a part, as a carpeted room will be quieter than a room with wood or tile flooring.
