China has banned a number of Western sites so broadly speaking I don't have a problem with tit-for-tat banning. A TikTok ban would really piss-off a tonne of new and future voters. So that would be a major complication to be considered by our legislators. OTOH, with a good VPN, how much can truly be banned. China has the advantage here of the Great fireWall. US equivalent is probably a few years down the road. And the net result: a totally fragmented interweb. So much for global electronic kumbayah. Probably the best approach would be to not ban anything and teach and embrace critical thinking skills. And implement improved security features on our "smart" devices.
