It can be hard to impossible to sift out the difference between the assigned narrative and more complete information. During the cold war, news / information only lacked key details and pretty much presented without bias and details which one could gather from foreign sources on short wave but now, it's highly edited sentences and misrepresentations and the normal lies of omission.
I think the best one can do is a balanced diet of both sides, viewed with skepticism and over time a pattern may build up as to which side tends closer to reality or how things actually worked out and why.
While a grapefruit juice and whole milk smoothie may sound and taste gross, I honestly I think taking in MSNBC or NPR AND Fox in the same day and doing that often is a good idea.
One thing that stands out is "conveyed emotion" is a key part of commercial sales pitches so when you see a talking head that is emotional about the narrative, that is practiced "professional talent" persuasion.
