Yes there is, the reason is too often the other formerly trusted information channels are telling a narrative not news. For example when we had 50 odd gov officials saying a story was Russian disinformation instead of something that was actually true (in the traditional sense as in it actually happened) and they were covering it up.
When caught lying often enough, the trust and ability to swallow the official news "as is" gets diminished and people question things by considering other information.
Many have concluded one must consider both sides of the marketing and reality is only revealed over time observing what they said vs what happens.
Part of the problem is the large industry that shapes our wants and buying habits is also in charge of the popularity contest that our elections have become.
There is something very wrong when the winner is normally the one who spent the most in that industry.
No wonder unscripted things like debates on actual topics are so risky now.
