Got my new Pioneer plasma hung on the wall a couple of days ago. Last night it just cut off. Manual makes me believe that it was thermal protection that kicked in. Did it again this morning
Called Pioneer. After explaining the problem they asked me to count the # of times the LED blinks after it kicks off and call them and they will send the correct board to the tech to have it replaced.
Lots of internet dealers selling Grey market TV's but if they are not authorized the warranty is void. If you are patient and shop around there are deals to be had at an authorized dealer. But you gotta dig around a bit.

I bought mine from OneCall and love it and them.
I'm very pleased with the picture quality. I did some snooping around over at AVS and noticed that Pioneer is definitely the favorite plasma over there.

...I’d expect them to deliver a new plasma and take away the faulty one. Nothing less.

online auction for less than 2/3 cost of new while at the store which was about 1/2 of retail when first introduced. IOW's I got the 60 inch plasma for $2k. It is a PDP 6070HD which is no longer made. And with the auction, all sales are final. Plus they have no more in stock.
You roll the dice and you take your chances. The best price I found online for this was $3300, and that from an unauthorized dealer. At least I got a warranty with this one.
That being said, how would you go about getting a new one?

...Or have you just bought a superseded plasma screen with a warranty card?
I wouldn’t buy a plasma from an auction house. I’d only buy from an authorised dealer.
If a screen malfunctioned in the first 2 or 3 days I’d expect, and get, it to be replaced ASAP.
I am in Australia so I don’t know what recourse is open to you. Probably you have to rely on the service agent to diagnose the fault and fix it.
Good luck.

I also called them to make sure

...simply taken it back and replaced it immediately.
If the "service call" doesn't resolve the problem, I would demand a replacement at once and not screw around with them trying to fix it with more board swaps.

The TV was what, 3 days old when it went? That qualifies as being defective when bought.
I'm unimpressed with both the TV and the service.

Hung on wall, thermal protection kicking in. What wall and what location? Is it over a fireplace or adjacent to a heat source? Is the problem the plasma or is the placement and the conditions it is exposed to?
You're probably right given the length of time it's been in use but it is possible that the problem is the placement.

something related I think. The rep asked me if I was running straight to cable or from a cable box. I was running straight at the time but usually use a cable box. I switched over to the box and have had no more problems. However i am just guessing at the problem based on his question and my experience so far.

Why would it make a difference if you were running straight from cable or through a box (outside of getting different channels)?
I refuse to use a cable box personally.
Jack
I'm don't have that answer. I would rather not use a box but in order to get pay per view it is a must. I checked on a card sometime back and was told there were some down sides. I'll probably order HD now that we have the TV for it so I will check into it some more. But I understand what you're saying about using a box. AAMOF, the reason why I did not have the box in the loop was that without it we can pick up the network HD channels. I don't understand why though.

Most cable companies will let you have the local HD channels free without the box. They may be *required* to give it to you. Cable cards, if they can get them to work, don't do pay per view.

....I would like to think most consumers would not be so devoid of intelligence they place a plasma panel over a fireplace or adjacent a heat source. But hey, stranger things have happened.
We have yet to hear back from inmate artemus but I suspect when he called Pioneer service surely the service people will have questioned the placement of the set etc?
However, if a set has a fault after 2 or 3 days I wouldn’t want it and would demand a replacement OR my money back. Oh, it is quite possible the board it is on or the thermal protection switch itself is faulty.
