Lashana Lynch will replace Daniel Craig in the Bond franchise. They have just re-written the bible and I will not participate in GB's war for diversity. Bond 25 is the end of it all for me. Fleming is turning in his grave.
Follow Ups:
Call it something else. Ooh - seems like virtue signaling will be operating as a parasite by glomming on to an existing successful "franchise". But if they call it something else, it certainly won't make as much money. What to do? ;-)
I've been watching Bond films for as long as I can remember. Liked them from the get-go. My wife and I for a period used to watch them when they came on at night, almost had a marathon at one point. Still think Connery was my fave, Craig was also good (although took some getting used to for us), some were pretty corny, but still enjoyable.
To take 007 / James Bond, and change him like this is against my (and my wife's) liking.
I'd only ask that if they wish to do so, create a new series, new number, (008? pick a number), new name. Please do not defame the 007 branding.
Regardless, it is very unlikely we will watch this.

Does anybody really give a good poop about Bond anymore?!? That was sooo last century. I mean really, if they didn't make this "controversial" move how in the holy hell would they get people to even pay attention, let alone come to the theater?
The last few Bond movies didn't fare well in the theaters?
IMO, the franchise began to die with Thunderball. Rigor mortise fully set in with Diamonds. After the Casino reboot, I honestly had high hopes it heralded the resurrection of the series, but then it went straight into the crapper with the second effort. Too bad, but it's gone.
A quick search (other results may vary), including inflation, shows Skyfall in 2012 as the highest grossing Bond film ever. Spectre in 2015 is 4th.
You may not like them, but by no means are they in the crapper.
As I said before, some are very corny, but still enjoyable...
Are those inflation adjusted? And since when is the crap level measured by how much money they gross?According to Box Office Mojo, Sky grossed $1.1b compared to an inflation adjusted Thunderball at $1.05b. So in 47 years, they've made virtually no progress on and inflation adjusted basis.
If you enjoy the films that's fine by me. I don't particularly care for them. The ones I enjoy the most are the first three. They were the most true to the Fleming books. For me they're the best because they're carried by their underlying story and the shear gravitas of the character. They were spy stories with a bit of fantasy thrown in. Each successive film became more fantasy and gimmickry, and less and less about spy and frankly less about Bond. That's why I had such high hopes that the Casino reboot was a return to the original balance between spy and fantasy. Sadly, it didn't turn out that way with the following Craig films.

I generally perceive "in the crapper" as something failing financially. Otherwise it's simply subjective. If you view that term subjectively then carry on. As I also said, Connery is still my fave, so it's not like I care one way or the other. I do feel the new ones are fine to some degree; I did not like them all...
i doubt these guys complaining even go to movies. Most of these guys watch video at home and complain about modernity.
You seem like a pretty all knowing guy. What a clever thing so say.
I saw Moby Dick (the original) on the Big Screen.
Go jump in the lake.
I do...so just shut up
Disagree. With arrival of Daniel Craig the franchise re-invented itself and it's the only watchable Bond in the whole history of the series.
Now, the question is , will the girl 007 be lesbian and the series will continue the tradition of so called "Bond girls" or she is going to date some male losers?
The most reassuring fact is that no matter who is on the cover the money stream will always flow to the same, small circle of people and the public will get the bare bone.
.
also as a fashion icon. Those Bond omega watches still sell well.
To me he was the least cartoonish of any Bonds. Good WASP's entertainment which is obviously deemed reactionary and racist now.
The wheels will turn around when Hollywood will reach the intellectual depths of Bollywood .
ROTFLOL... SO true!!!! THAT is the funniest thing I've read in a long time!!!! As for Daniel Craig, I heard ALOT of women in the audience audibly gasp when he rose out of the water in Casino Royale... I believe it was Dame Judi Dench that commented after seeing Craig dress in his trailer that "it's an absolute monster" but quickly added "maybe I should not have said that".... Too late Judi, now everyone knows....
Judi Densch is a fine actress, but another example of the long deep demise. M was a male and a very important and central figure in the series. He was a former admiral in the British Navy during WWII, and his name wasn't even revealed until late in the series. He was deeply revered by Bond.
What the point was of changing M's character to a female is totally beyond me.
I guess to add Ms. Dench who has considerable acting chops to the mix... I actually liked Judi Dench as M both with Brosnan and Craig.... I thought they made a good pair in both cases.... Dench made M a more integral character in the series IMO..... Before M was not as important of a character to the plots.....
So, there were no male actors who could have done that?
And the Hollywood media will blame racists and misogynists.
As for me, I'm done with Hollywood. This was the final straw. I will never purchase another movie ticket as long as I live.

whether you choose to be or not.
The first one will be a huge BO success.
After that no telling.

Is there much "good will" (so to speak) left in the James Bond franchise ?
My kids (23 and 27) never cared for Bond films and I doubt even a radical change to the 007 character will get their curiosity up.
Personally, I liked most of them ...yup, even the Brosnan and Moore years.
But, I've never read the books and am fairly easily entertained.

I have no idea.
I just figure it certainly can't be any of the old farts hanging around and posting here.
Process of elimination as such.
The Flemings are a fun read as I recall.

If anyone is wondering who she is or what her credits are, she played in "Captain Marvel" as the good buddy fighter jock, along with Brie Larson.
Personally, I don't think it was a noteworthy performance. And certainly not a Bond character and personality. If a black woman was sought, it might have been a better choice to move Naomie Harries into that roll, but she is already cast as Eve Moneypenny.
I couldn't agree more, but for me it happened even before Connery was gone from the scene. If you were a devotee of the novels ( I still reread them), they went askew completely starting with the movie "You Only Live Twice". That movie bore little resemblance to the book. Later ones only continued (I thought there was some minor redemption with Craig's first Bond movie).
Also, even in the Connery movies, Bond's character morphed into a sarcastic, prank playing, witty god to women. The actual (i.e. written) Bond was not funny, and was a very hard man, almost with a depressing sense of future doom. Obviously, this won't sell many movies.
I would guess that if Fleming had lived longer, he would have been very much against the different bond that showed up in the movies.
have pulled off those with his weary and sullen attitude.
Connery did them well. Goldfinger too, though the action packed aspect
started to bloom there.
The veering off the Fleming path really started with Thunderball and
went straight to the top of the box office from there.
Connery held tight.
By Diamonds Are Forever Connery was too aware of the joke and was
replaced by A joke - Roger Moore. OHMSS was a mistake big mistake,
thusly Moore.
It's been a rough ride since. The original Casino Royale was a spoof
of James Bond movies while James Bond movies were basically still in
their prime.
Craig and the series turnaround was impressive.
We here are all too old to appreciate ANY new James Bond at this point and
whoever was cast of whichever sex or race would have elicited a negative
vibe.

They would be a lot cheaper to make and require real acting.
Maybe someone will go back in the Playboy Magazine files and resurrect the "Israel Bond" sendup by Shel Silverstein from the 1960s.
Israel Bond drove a Rambler (I think), wore Hushpuppies shoes, and smoked Raleigh cigarettes for the coupons.

I've been using the 'flint' ringtone for years.
James Coburn was in 'Our Man Flint' and 'In Like Flint', near the peak of the spy spoof genre.
Of course, Coburn was also in 'The President's Analyst'.....another sendup.
AFAIK, the 2nd string in such movies was Matt Helm.....played to a 'TEE' by Dean Martin.
But for MY nickel? The best single spy movie? Woody Allen bought an ENTIRE Japanese Movie. Recut, new sound track and replotted. (The SEARCH for the perfect Egg Salad Recipe, of all things!)
Featuring the attrative 'Yaki' sisters.....Suki and Teri........For fans of Allen, only.
'Whats Up Tiger Lily' is a must see.

a tough 009
Bill
AND Barbara Broccoli must be smoking something! I've been through EVERY Bond incarnation that there has been.... Some I have liked and others not so much. My interest will end after Daniel Craig exits... Woman Bond indeed... WHAT are they thinking?!?!?!?!? Next up a transgender Nancy Drew....
Sad choice indeed. OTOH, I would not mind a tg Nancy Drew ;)
They must be tired of making money and want to turn to more socially responsible filmmaking.
Why would he care?

We can point to recent precedent flicks for paving the way:
Jennifer Garner in Elektra,
Jennifer Lawrence in Red Sparrow,
Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde.
And probably others I've missed. Relatred roles would be Vikander as Laura Croft and in Ex Machina, Gadot as Wonder Woman. Those are the bricks in the yellow road. It seems like this new Bond role was a forgone choice.
She doesn't look very bad ass -- or in any way exceptional. With most of the male roles, you could just look at the dude and know he had something going on.
Time and critics will tell.
shitty movies IMHO and I AM a fan of each of those ladies.....
It seems our good poster is a little late to the party. The 007 he wants is the title character in the movie "Anna," only it is spelled with one of the middle 'N' backwards, modern style, like with the band nine inch nails.Of course, the protagonist is played by a, gasp, woman.
I guess some guys just don't like women. I would hope 007 movies are not that big a part of his life that he is really serious.
Pussy galore and her flying circus, is , how can I can it, a little mumm , theatrical? She just happens to have a touring aerial show, with only women pilots, part of goldfingers evil schemes, then 007 comes along, etc etc. That kind of stuff was covered with the sharks with laser beams strpped to their heads joke of some years st.

to be a Bond "man"....
A slut. How will they approach that? She's a lesbian? Too bad they didn't promote Naomi Harris to the new job. She was already deadly and I would give her a shot.
Shit, I have NO idea who she is, no idea IF she's a good actor, NO idea IF they can even find a
DECENT script for her, but I have a VERY good idea that she'll be a better 007 than Roger Moore
ever was. OR Timothy Dalton in LTK (what a POS movie).
And if not, there will be someone else to take her place down the line.
Them Bond Billion$ will see to that.
It's all PRETEND Wonka, why get your knickers in such a bunch over... entertainment?
Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher is a joke, but it somehow still... entertains.

In the ninth grade. I read most twice and a couple four times. They have no right to upset the Bond Religion apple cart for the sake of politics.
I feel Craig would be the most pleasing to Fleming. Solitary and quiet is the real Bond but by FRWL he had become a wise cracking vaudevillian. The audience wanted it that way.
The opening sequence is what Bond films became. Craig's sequence in Casino Royale is beyond any female performer (and I don't want to watch Rousey do it).
Any thing can happen before the shooting starts. I'd like to see Ron Jeremy be a Bond. He'd be a scream.
it just took a helluva long time for anyone to realize it.
As a teen, I LOVED the Flemings and too read them all at least twice.
BUT, this was the early '70's and the cinematic Bond was well established.
The difference between page and screen was NOT minor, but I very
much enjoyed the Connery era and seeing those films in repertory
houses with full screens for the first time was absolutely thrilling.
Read some of the non Fleming Bond novels too - by decent writers that just
didn't hit the mark. Bond died with Fleming. Period.
Skyfall may as well have been a Mission Impossible movie.
Ron Jeremy? So, straight from 007 to 0012 eh?

to the description of Bond by Fleming.... with the exception of maybe Pierce Brosnan... But really NONE of them look like Hoagy Carmichael! An interesting summation though....
I agree with you re: Craig. I think Connery began to enjoy the flippant image.I am quite sorry to se most of the poster to this thread not seeming to be real "fleming/Bond aficionados. The movies, for the most part, have disgraced what Bond was in Flemings writings, Very sad IMO.
Something once great in literature, ruined by Hollywood.
I'm getting old, but it still pisses me off.
Oh to be able to have a cocktail or two with Flemings and get his take.
or at least he secretly identified as one and preferably a darker shade of pale... I mean Sean Connery always looked suspicious to me as well with his overblown machismo hiding the truth..
